The Mississippi River

The Mississippi River is the Second Longest River in The US. In March 1543 the Mississippi actually Flooded for 80 Days and has had Iowa Under water before. Like The Amazon River the Mississippi has a Drainage basin and it is the third biggest in the world the Basin actually covers more than 1,245,00 Square miles! The Mississippi River is locates in North America’s State Mississippi and flows through around 12 states and the name Mississippi actually means ‘father of Waters’ in Algonquian. The Mississippi Is home to around 200 different species of fish which means Mississippi has the most fish than other river in North America it also has 25 different mussels as well. The Mississippi also has reptiles as well like the snakes, turtles and Salamanders there is even river Otters how cute. 40% of Americas ducks and geese also rely on the Mississippi for a migrating area. In New Orleans the speed of the water is 3 miles per hour. The Mississippi river in most areas is about 20 to 30 metres across, Although near alton the mississippi is a huge 1 mile wide!
